Throughout my studies in psychology, I have gained a better understanding of human behavior, mental health, psychological disorders, and the different theories used to understand individuals. I have also learned that psychology is a broad field and there is always more to learn. My classes have helped me build a strong foundation while also teaching me how psychological concepts can be applied to real people and real-life situations.

Research methods & statistics have helped me become a stronger critical thinker. I have learned how to find credible research, look deeper into psychological topics, interpret information, and use evidence to support what I am saying. Some assignments have also pushed me to research subjects that were outside of my main interests, which challenged me to expand my knowledge and become more comfortable learning about different areas of psychology.

One of the biggest things I have learned is that everyone is different and there is not one approach that will work for every person. An individual's background, culture, family, environment, experiences, and specific needs all matter. My classes have helped me understand why psychologists must remain ethical, open-minded, and aware of individual differences when working with different populations.

The different papers, discussions, projects, and presentations I have completed have helped me become more confident in communicating psychological information. I have learned how to organize my thoughts, explain what I have learned, support my ideas with research, and use psychological terminology appropriately. I have also learned that being able to understand information is important, but being able to clearly communicate that information to others is just as important.

My experiences throughout the psychology program have helped me become more certain about what I want to do professionally. I have been able to connect what I am learning in the classroom with my experiences working with individuals with ASD and my future goals in clinical psychology. I also understand that graduating with my bachelor's degree is only one step in my journey. I plan to continue developing my knowledge and experience through graduate education as I work toward my long-term goal of becoming a clinical psychologist and serving individuals with ASD and their families.
